A Day Trip to Greer, SC

Oh my, do I have a place for you to visit today! My friend, Rhonda, suggested I try a day trip to Greer, SC and I wasn’t disappointed! If you are new here, welcome! I’m Sharlie Grier and I love visiting local small towns and exploring the downtowns there. My oldest daughter, Pressley, goes with me, as well as my four month old, Miller. We have had the best time visiting all of these awesome towns around us!

A Whole New World

Downtown Greer is like stepping into a beautiful new world. As Pressley and I walked from the parking area, down a side street (that was gorgeous!), and then stepped onto the corner of the Main Street, Pressley said, “Nothing compares to Greer. This is so different than any other place we’ve visited.”

I definitely have to agree. It reminded me of the old town that used to be at Hollywood Studios (pretty sure it was torn down to make way for Star Wars World and Toy Story Land??). It was brightly colored and had brick streets. I can’t tell you how much I love a brick street. It’s why Abbeville, SC has my heart.

Downtown Greer has been lovingly restored over the last year and a half and it absolutely amazes me, but more on that later.

The Galleries of Brian Brigham

The first store we came to was The Galleries of Brian Brigham. Again, there was a bit of awe as we opened the ornate doors. You can tell the pieces here are carefully selected and they are exquisite. Crystal chandeliers, ornate chairs, a farmhouse table to die for…this store was a feast for the antique lover.

The Shoppes On Trade

Our next stop was The Shoppes On Trade and this store made a big impression in so many ways! The owner was super friendly and I watched as she talked to her customers, bustled about the store to give free samples of treats from the Chocolate Shop in the back. This is the store to visit if you need to buy a gift for someone. There is just something for everyone. I especially loved the Prayer Request book that was out.

Chelsea’s Ladies Clothing and Accessories

If you are looking for a cute outfit, check out Chelsea’s! This store was set up in the most creative way. There were little sections of clothes, almost like individual stores. They also have a cafe in the back that will be reopening soon. I hate I missed it, but another reason to make sure I return!

Plunder

Is that not the best name ever for an antique store? Gosh, I just love it! This antique store was another delight for the vintage, antique lover. So many gorgeous chandeliers here! There was an amazing table that sat fourteen people!

Time to Eat!

There are lots of dining options in downtown Greer, SC. In fact, I had a really hard time deciding which one to try. I really wanted to try Select, but Miller was in a bit of a fussy mood and the atmosphere through the window looked really nice and quiet. I chose to eat at Los Portales instead and it was a good choice. The music was nice and loud and the food was tasty. Other places to check out are The Mason Jar and The Strip Club 104.

Southern Sisters Boutique

We stopped at one last store after lunch. Southern Sisters Boutique has tons of cute clothes and accessories! If you are looking for the perfect top or dress, this is a must-visit!

Barista Alley

It was about time to wrap up our day. We stopped by Barista Alley to grab a smoothie before heading out. I ordered the Pineapple Punch and it was delicious. Pressley will get a smoothie a lot of the time when we go on our day trips and they taste too sweet for my liking, but this tasted like a smoothie with real fruit and no sugar. LOVED IT! They also have coffee and serve crepes.

The Park

I saved the best for last. Greer’s city park is right off the main downtown area and, again, it was like stepping into Disney World. We walked down a path to a fountain, which had this section shaded by trees. Suddenly, music started playing from some speakers and then I noticed the fountain was “dancing” to the music. Amazing! It was the most peaceful spot!

Final Thoughts

I always take something away from each visit and our day trip to Greer, SC was no different. You can tell that the renovation of Greer was well-thought out. You can tell that this city is investing in itself. Do you know what happens when a city invests in itself? The people start to take pride in their city. And I feel like it creates a domino effect. Greer, thank you for an amazing visit! You are magical!

There are always places we miss due to time or having a baby with us. If we missed a spot that is a must-see, please let us and our readers know in the comments. 🙂
